Heroes and Monsters (Ages 6 – 7)

July 7 – 11, 8:30AM – 3PM

Get ready to team up with your friends and MCASD educators in an awesome showdown for the fate of the museum–an art collision between Heroes and Monsters.

Spend the week designing your own Hero and Monster inspired by the Museum's collection:

  • Learn how to use art for good by developing your own art superpowers.
  • Create a persona by dawning masks and capes influenced by Nick Cave.
  • Use John Baldessari's conceptual powers to fight "Boring Art."

Material Land Escapades (Ages 7 – 9)

July 14 – 18, 8:30AM – 3PM

Make new friends as you go on an adventure of colorful landscapes and radiant underwater worlds at MCASD!

Learn how contemporary artists combine mediums and materials and make art inspired by the natural world around us:

  • Create your very own underwater world inspired by Andrea Chung.
  • Team up with other camps to film and build an installation just like Fox Maxy.
  • Bend light to create mysterious wonders to celebrate Robert Irwin.

Installation Exploration: Transforming Space Through Art (Ages 7 – 9)

July 21 – 25, 8:30AM – 3PMTransform space, embody art, and leave your creative mark during this week of creative transformation.

Explore the world of installation and performance art as you experiment with scale, collaboration, and innovation:

  • Together, create a large-scale sculpture inspired by artists in the Museum’s collection.
  • Dive into immersive video and sound installations using iPads, taking cues from the works of Sterling Ruby, Ed Ruscha, and Fox Maxy.
  • Create wearable art and puppets inspired by Nick Cave and Mickalene Thomas, culminating in a collaborative performance piece.
