On Saturday, September 9, 2023, philanthropists and arts enthusiasts gather at The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Building for an exquisite evening celebrating the ineffable essence of joie de vivre and the impact of art in all our lives. 

As the evening begins, Gala-goers are invited inside the Museum to enjoy cocktails and fine hors d’oeuvres. Next, guests will enter an enthralling open-air dining room with a view overlooking the Pacific, and as the sun sets delight in a specially curated al fresco dinner and immersive entertainment experience into the night.  

The Gala will feature a very special guest, Los Angeles-based artist Kelly Akashi whose first solo exhibition, Kelly Akashi: Formations, will be on view at MCASD in the Strauss Family Galleries later this fall (opening September 21, 2023). In anticipation of this captivating exhibition, The Gala will take inspiration from Akashi’s poetic sculptures and photographs. And as always, MCASD’s celebrated Collection Galleries will be on view. 

The Gala is MCASD’s most important fundraising event of the year, proceeds support MCASD’s goal to bring world class exhibitions, innovative programs, and impactful educational experiences to the San Diego community.
